Art is my salmon, Salmon is my Art

It is difficult to say which came first, the chicken or the egg. Likewise it is hard to define exactly what art is. There are so many varied definitions and different perspectives on defining the arts. Pablo Picasso said that “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” While there is some contention as to whether this quote is attributable to Picasso, it is encouraging and inspiring, and the reference to Picasso lends it credibility. What we do know about Picasso is that he created great works of art and if you believe, like I do, that what people do is more important than what they say, then we can just let Picasso’s art speak for itself.

My art teacher once said to me that we should not blindly believe what people say just because they are famous people or they are teachers. We should consider every point on its merit and figure out how we can improve on the ideas that we come across. By thinking this way, we can be creative and step out from the shadow of others, to be free thinkers in our own right. This had a huge impact on me and led me to think out of the box, which changed my attitude towards things forever.

I’m just an ordinary person, but I love and live for art. When I was young I lived in the uptown area of a Bangkok. Most people there said that art was not important and they did not believe that artists could make a living. Fortunately, my family thought differently and always supported my dreams. When I was 7 years old, my parents allowed me to paint a wall of the house! It was my first masterpiece and I was really proud of it. I’ve been studying and practicing my art since then. I have come across obstacles on the way, but I believe that you need to have passion for what you do in your soul. I may not be a perfect artist but I have passion which drives me to become better and better everyday, for my personal projects and in the art and design that I do for for ServMask.

I think that food is a form of art too. Whenever people are hungry, they find something to eat. When given the choice, most people will choose as delicious a meal as they can, something that they really like. Chefs always strive to prepare delicious food. To create a great dish, they need to source quality ingredients and blend them together with skill and passion. That said, even the best chefs in the world create dishes which only some people may like it but others may not. The same applies to art. Artists want to create fantastic works, but even a talented artists can’t always please everyone. They may brings their heart and soul to their work, with fine materials and the best tools to create their masterpiece, but the perception of the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. If anyone wants to continue to improve and gain experience, practice makes perfect and getting feedback from people is part of the process.

People have different ways to find inspiration. For me, I love to find inspiration from food and my favourite food is salmon. I believe that salmon is one of the most delicious ingredients. Sometimes I am the chef that creates delicious salmon dishes and sometimes I just enjoy eating the perfect plate of salmon. By the way, Bon Appétit with my artworks ! :)
